Hamlet 2

I just wanted to inform you people (What do you mean "You people"?) that if they think Hamlet 2 is some Shakespeare film adaptation, they are wrong, it's a modern comedy about a guy who wrote a sequel to Hamlet. The sequel includes a song entitled "Rock Me Sexy Jesus" (Below). If you haven't seen it yet, i've posted a link to the redband trailer in my links section.

Why I Love Blockbuster

I love Blockbuster... large selection... previously viewed DVDs... rentals... those buckets of popcorn that they sell. They have that ongoing sale there, 3 previously viewed DVDs under $14.99 or 4 previously viewed DVDs under $9.00 for $20. WOW, I thought, I got to get me some of that. I decided to do the 3 DVDs under $14.99 "deal". I decided to go with AVP2 Requiem (UNRATED!) and Lars and the Real Girl (Ben recommended it, to me (and Michael Phillips) it looks terrible), the person with me got August Rush. Did you ever notice every Blockbuster smells the same (I did)? I love Blockbuster (I also love the way Blockbuster smells).

The Coen Brothers and Me

Today I saw Raising Arizona... It was my 4th Coen Brothers experience. The first three were Fargo, No Country For Old Men, and The Big Lebowski. Raising Arizona, in my opinion, was the worst of the bunch. I'm not saying I didn't love it, it simply can't compare to the sick wood-chipper scene in Fargo, Javier Bardem in No Country, or Walter Sobchak's hilarious antics in The Big Lebowski. The big chase scene and the exploding biker can't live up to those other classic moments.

Out today on DVD

21 is being released today on DVD. It stars Jim Sturgess of Across the Universe as Ben Campbell, a brilliant MIT student who joins a group of other students (including Jill Taylor, played by Kate Bosworth of Superman Returns) that make weekly trips to Vegas, where they count cards to make millions. Also in the cast are Two time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey and Oscar nominee Laurence Fishburne. This film is okay. Good, not great, but okay. There are a lot of good things about this movie, such as the acting, and actually a pretty exciting story. But there's some bad stuff, too, like the somewhat cheesy writing and the very, VERY irritating score. However, on top of everything, there's something really entertaining about 21. It's not a masterpiece, but it's not terrible. I personally recommend the film. It's actually pretty good. I give it a 2 1/2 out of 4.

Sin City DVD Review

You may have noticed Sin City used to be my #10 film ever. It has been replaced by Lebowski so now it's #11. I love this film. It's based on the series of graphic novels by Frank Miller, who also wrote the graphic novel 300 was based on. The film was directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. Quentin Tarintino acted as a guest director. The black and white visual style of the film is stunning. I love pretty much everything about it. Take my suggestion buy the two disk deluxe edition that comes with a graphic novel, the special features are great!

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight... Where shall I begin? The best film of the year so far... that would be an under statement this might be the best movie of the past 10 years. I was expecting great things from this film. I expected to be let down because it couldn't possibly be as good as I hoped it would be. But it was better then i possibly could have imagined! Heath Ledger was by far the best thing about the film. His performance will haunt my dreams for weeks. Christan Bale was at his best, so was just about everybody else. The direction was masterful. The script was perfect. The cinematography was overwhelmingly great. I don't want to give any of the plot away because you simply have to see this film for yourself! I can't wait for my second, third, and hundredth viewing of this modern masterpiece!
